I was scrolling through IG this morning and came across a beautiful silver ring based on a loosely wound spiral. It got me thinking that I’ve not really done much with spirals. In large part because tin is so thin it doesn’t hold a shape like that very well.

I played around with a couple of more rough spirals, but just as I already knew, they didn’t work so well. I finally found the longest piece of tin I had in the bin and just cut a really long strip. Once wound tight, I realized it’s kind of like a cool metal bead.

Figuring out how to connect everything up was also a bit tricky. This double headpin option works pretty well. I’m kind of inclined to make more of these.

----------------------

Each piece is hand cut and tightly rolled into a spiral. They are connected with a rigid German silver double headpin and then strung on a handmade surgical stainless steel wire to finish the look.

The finished earrings are approximately .5" (12mm) wide and hang about 2.75" (68mm) from the ear.

All adaptive reuse pieces come to you neatly displayed on an upcycled card, wrapped and ready for gift-giving.
