Though I have always had a deep admiration for whales, the universe has been sending so many pings my way the last few weeks, it occurred to me that I was supposed bring them in to my work.
These Humpback whales were created using the gorgeous illustrations from the enigmatic Charles Melville Scammon in the mid 1800s. Here the shape was cut from a lovely flowery vintage tin.
The whale has been riveted to two organic circles. The earrings strung on German silver eye pins and finished with surgical stainless steel French hooks
The finished earrings are approximately 1.5" (30mm) wide and hang about 2.5" (60mm) from the ear.
Each piece of metal comes to me having lived a previous life--in some cases multiple lives! It is not unusual for the material to sometimes have scuffs, scratches, faded portions, and general wear and tear. If a flawless finish is important to you, please zoom in to the pictures here to look for imperfections that might be distracting for you.
All adaptive reuse pieces come to you neatly displayed on an upcycled card and sustainably wrapped ready for gift-giving.
